Energy Is Catchy

Take a moment today to notice the energy in your home and how it shifts throughout the day. Have you ever thought about how energy is contagious?

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Jayne Warrilow, author of the book An Energy Awakening, at a conference for coaches.  Jayne helped me to start noticing my energy and the impact my energy has on others.  I also started to notice that my children have energy and their energy is contagious.   Knowing that I can choose my energy and shift energy is a powerful thought.

There’s a lot of energy in my home right now around fitness, working out, and dance.  My 11 year-old daughter can’t stop dancing around.  I make good use of her energy by asking her to “dance this box of cereal back to the pantry.”  Bet you never thought that cleaning up and dancing could go together?

The other day, my daughter suggested that we swim in the pool at the fitness center.  Yikes.  My first reaction was “no way, I haven’t swam in years.”  Then I stopped and consciously became open to the energy she was presenting.   I grabbed my suit and gave it a try.  Amazing!  Humbling.  I found that I was tired after swimming 6 laps.  Using parts of my body and muscles that haven’t been used in years felt exhausting and exhilarating.  Energy can be contagious in a good way.

Energy can be contagious in a way that feels not so good as well.  We had some “bored energy” hanging around earlier this summer and it was difficult to be with this type of energy.  I was conscious to let this energy alone.   It was difficult not to want to judge it or move it out of the way.  Just letting my child be in the energy was a good thing.   One thing led to another and my child seized an opportunity to go to camp and get active doing things she’s never done before.  I miss her terribly, but it was the right thing to do.  Doing what’s right is not always easy.

Here’s some food for thought for you this week:

1.  What’s your energy like in this moment?

2.  How is your energy impacting your household?

3.  What if you knew that you were responsible for the energy you create?  What would you do the same or differently?

4.  What energy do you want to catch?

Let me know what you find out!  You can leave me a private message on my Facebook page or comment on this post!  Let me know how it goes.
